My thoughts: Fractured Light is an entertaining, fresh read.
The concept is the usual young-girl-discovering-her-powers-and meets-hot-guy, with an interesting and unusual twist: the main character can manipulate light, and in so doing give people peace and hope. The characters are nicely developed, and there are enough of them that weren't essential to this first volume's storyline that the reader is drawn back for book 2, to see what becomes of them. The plot could use a little streamlining; there were spots where the author spends time on scenes that are extraneous, though they do feed into the genuine feel of typical high school life.
Although I was a little frustrated through much of the first half of the book from the lack of information about Llona's world, the discovery process along with her worked. It helps the reader sympathize with her, that we don't know the same things she doesn't know.
Without giving too much away, I'll say that readers who love Jennifer L. Armentrout's Half-Blood series will enjoy this one as well. There is a kick-butt heroine with a hottie guy training her, and plenty of supernatural evil for them to fight. Not to mention some great chemistry. . .
