Spotlight on Divergent

 Today we are featuring the Divergent; people who could fit into more than one faction. 

Divergent 

 Characteristics of faction: 

 Receives a result on the aptitude test indicating an aptitude for more than one faction. 

Most Divergents have two aptitudes. 

Being a Divergent is regarded as being extremely dangerous and Divergents are encouraged never to tell anyone what they are.

 Today we are featuring Amity, the faction that Tris and Four turn to for help at the end of Divergent. So let’s learn a little about Amity... 

 Faction: Amity 

Characteristics of faction: 

 Value friendship and equality. 

Value peace, trust and love. 

Wear red and yellow clothes. 

The most creative faction. 

Grow the food that sustains the city. 

Make decisions as a collective and have no true leader.

 Today we are featuring Dauntless, who most people probably regard as “the Good Guys”. So, without further ado, here’s a little about them. 

 Faction: Dauntless 

 Characteristics of faction: 

 Courageous and strive to overcome fear. 

Guard the fence around the city & provide security generally. 

Travel by jumping onto and off of trains. 

Wear black clothing. 

Can be quite impulsive. 

Believe in teamwork.

 Value the truth & never lie because they believe lies are evil. 

Can be taken as quite rude because they say what they think and believe politeness is deceitful. 

Many Candor faction members have a role in law. 

Wear black and white clothes.

 Today we are featuring Abnegation, Tris’ original faction. Abnegation isn’t well liked by everyone, and the Erudite especially dislike them... even though Reading Lark is Erudite, we are going to cut Abnegation a little slack and feature them today.

Faction: Abnegation 

 Characteristics of faction: 

 Value selflessness and shun anything that promotes selfishness and vanity, such as mirrors. 

Extremely patient and kind. 

Dress in gray clothes and have severe hairstyles. 

Do not engage in public affection and dislike physical contact. 

Encourage the use of guilt as a tool for self-improvement. 

Believe that weapons and suicide are self-serving and therefore should not be sanctioned.

 “On the one hand, you threw yourself on the dog rather than let it attack the little girl, which is an Abnegation-oriented response... but on the other, when the man told you that the truth would save him, you still refused to tell it. Not an Abnegation-oriented response.”  Divergent pg 22.
